Boudoir is becoming very popular, especially among brides. A boudoir album makes the perfect gift, but the planning and timing for your session needs to be right so you achieve your goal and get your album in time. Here are some tips and ideas on how to make your boudoir session a success!
CHOOSING YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER
When you’re first thinking of doing a boudoir session, you’re probably looking at photographs online, googling, "pinteresting", looking through social media, and comparing prices. This is definitely the type of photography you don’t want to cheap out on. A quality boudoir photographer has skill, experience, the right gear, good lighting, and a friendly personality. If you want a really good, boudoir photographer, you’re going to pay a decent amount of money. My average boudoir client spends around $600 total with optional products. I haven't heard of any client regretting this! There's ways to make your boudoir session VERY affordable. You can get your friends to join! With minimum of 4 girls, you can lower the cost of your session by making it a party.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SESSION?
When scheduling a boudoir session as a groom’s gift, anniversary gift, holiday gift, etc. timing is very important. If you need your album in two weeks and you haven’t had your session yet, it’s likely not going to happen. Most boudoir photographers need six to eight weeks from the time of the session to album delivery. I require a minimum of four weeks and I need to know the date of delivery you are requiring as this would still be considered a "rush order". If you’re hiring a stylist for hair and makeup, decide if you’re going to use my stylist, or if you’re going to use someone else, and book them as well. Allow for an additional 1.5-2 hours in the stylist chair. My hair and make up artist will come right to my studio to allow for a quicker prep time.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
When it’s time to pick out what you’re going to wear, I always get so many questions. First, I start a Pinterest board for that specific client, and I invite her to pin to it (I make the board private). Then they can pin hair and makeup ideas, as well as anything else that inspires them, to this custom Pinterest board. I pin a ton of outfit ideas I’ve collected from Pinterest that will work on THEIR bodies. I’m also going to pin “Must Haves", such as solid colored, matching, bra and cheeky panty. Black or nude heels. A "teddy".
I ALWAYS end my sessions with 5-10 minutes of "white sheet" style poses. Using only a sheet you can get some really beautiful images, showing minimal or maximum skin, without giving too much away, to tease your significant other with!
2 DAYS BEFORE YOUR SESSION:
- Spray tanning (optional;be sure to get a very natural color, and go to someone good!)
- Eyebrow shaping
- Manicure/Pedicure (show your nail artist photos of your outfits)
- Root touch up on hair color if needed
- Start drinking a ton of water with lemon juice to get rid of bloat
- Make sure you have all your outfits, shoes, and accessories; do any last-minute shopping
THE DAY BEFORE YOUR SESSON:
- Shave unwanted body hair
- Exfoliate and moisturize face and body
- Wash and dry hair, no products
- Wear loose-fitting clothes and avoid anything that can leave lines like tight socks
- Pack your wardrobe; plan on bringing more outfits, shoes, and accessories than you’ll need
- Be on time
But how do i pose?
First of all, expect to be very nervous. It's ok to be nervous! In fact, I welcome it. Nerves mean you are outside your comfort zone. Guess where all the fun stuff happens in life? That’s right – outside your comfort zone! That’s where growth and self discovery thrive. Embrace the nerves, I promise they won’t last long. Once we start shooting, you will relax and got into it. My clients say within fifteen minutes of shooting, they became more comfortable and started having a ton of fun. Your confidence becomes stronger after your break through your comfort zone.
Many clients say, “I don’t know how to pose… Will you guide me?” Yes! It’s my job to pose you so you look your best. Your job is to have fun! Expect to have almost a two hour session, including outfit changes so you might be tired after! The poses can hurt, especially when you’re on tippy toes, poppin' that booty, arching your back, and engaging your ab muscles while in heels. I tell my clients it feels like doing Yoga.
AFTER YOUR SESSION:
Within 2 weeks of your session you will receive your online gallery. You will get a password to your private gallery so only you can access it! When you look through your images you can mark your favorites with the "heart". You will be able to download 30 of your images, print where you choose, and save for any future use. The rest of the images are available for purchase. If you are wanting to order a "little black book" all you have to do is pick your favorite images and I will design it! A book can typically fit 20-30 images depending on size and placement. Be prepared to love this book!
